Venugopal a BJP agent, Congress not ready for self-reflection: Kerala secretary says party rejected him for speaking truth

Kerala Congress Secretary PS Prashanth, who was expelled from party on Monday, after allegedly writing to the party leader Rahul Gandhi Against National General Secretary KC Venugopal, the party reacted sharply to the decision and called Venugopal an “agent of the BJP”.

In his letter that went public on Tuesday, Prashant said the Congress was not ready to consider its actions and claimed that Venugopal was colluding with the BJP.

“I wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi because KC Venugopal is the cause of organizational problems in Kerala. He hasn’t created someone who doesn’t have a direct or indirect commitment to him as DCC president. He should not have had such a narrow mindset… Since he is part of the high command, he should have treated everyone equally,” he said.

In his letter to Rahul Gandhi the previous day, Prashant had claimed that state unit workers saw Venugopal’s actions as collusion with the BJP. He further argued that ever since Venugopal took over as the general secretary for those states, the party in Goa, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh has been destroyed. Venugopal was made the national general secretary of the Congress in 2017.

“It is suspected that Venugopal is working as a BJP agent. Look at the situation in Goa… In view of these circumstances, I said that there is doubt. I have never said anything against the party and I am not expecting anything more from it. I will be a secular minded political activist. I will be there in a public place,” he said on Tuesday.

“I was telling the truth that the party was not ready for introspection and instead, they dismissed me. This is the big problem of Congress in Kerala and all over India.

The Congress is facing infighting in state units, including in Kerala, where senior leaders have gone public with resentment against each other. The party recently saw a near-rebellion in Punjab, where Navjot Singh Sidhu was made the state unit president after making serious allegations against his own party chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Sidhu had said that Amarinder was working closely with rival parties.
