Uttarakhand and Kerala are the latest states to announce night curfew amid Omicron threat

New Delhi: Uttarakhand and Kerala became the latest states to impose night curfew amid concerns over the spread of the Omicron Covid-19 variant.

The Kerala government has imposed a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am from December 30 to January 2.

The state government said that no New Year celebrations would be allowed after 10 pm on December 31.

In an order issued by Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, it has been said that the night curfew will be in force in Uttarakhand from 11 pm to 5 am till further orders. This will come into effect from Monday night.

On the other hand essential services like health, transportation of cars carrying health workers, ambulance and postal services have been exempted from the purview of the curfew.

The production, transportation and distribution of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG will also be exempted from the restrictions. Private cars will also be allowed to ply during the curfew for emergencies, subject to strict adherence to COVID SOPs and safety norms.

More than 550 Omicron cases have been reported in India. The health ministry said Delhi has reported the highest number of omicron cases in the country, followed by Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Keeping this in mind, the Delhi administration has put a complete ban on New Year celebrations and celebrations. Delhi has also announced night curfew from 11 pm on Monday night. Similarly, in Mumbai, party organizers will need to obtain formal authorization from the authorities if more than 200 persons are invited.
