Kanpur : Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurated the full section of Tuesday Kanpur Metro rail and when he boarded the metro train It Kanpur station and became the first passenger of the service.
PM Modi, who arrived in Kanpur on Tuesday morning, inaugurated a nine-km stretch from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel in a record time of two years.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and UP Chief Minister with PM Yogi Adityanath, traveled from IIT Kanpur Metro Station to Geeta Nagar Station. All the nine stations and the train were also decorated elaborately on the occasion of the inauguration of the Kanpur Metro line. Well-organized IIT-Kanpur and Geeta Nagar metro stations caught the attention of PM Modi, who looked mesmerized and satisfied.
PM Modi had bought the ticket to board the metro train and got down and displayed it at Geeta Nagar station.
While traveling in the metro, locals welcomed him by standing on the terraces or in their balconies and the PM also shook hands at him. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also greeted the people.
From Wednesday, Metro services will be available daily from 6 am to 10 pm.
The Kanpur Metro Rail project consists of two corridors and has a total length of 32.5 km. The first corridor is 23.8 km long from IIT-Kanpur to Naubasta while the second one from Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural University to Barra-8 is 8.6 km long.
The entire section of Metro inaugurated by the PM is part of the first corridor.
