Uttar Pradesh Election 2022: BJP Core Group meeting to finalize candidates for three phases

The top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday held a meeting in New Delhi to finalize the candidates for the first three phases of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections.

Highly placed sources said that the state election committee had sent the names of candidates for about 160 seats to the central leadership for consideration.

It is supposed to be a rehearsal meeting before the Central Election Committee puts its stamp on the final list of candidates.

Sources said that two-three candidates have been finalized for one seat. This list may dampen the enthusiasm of some leaders who do not make it to the list. The resignation of Cabinet Minister Swami Prasad Maurya has come in the background of this meeting.

With BJP President JP Nadda and UP in-charge Radha Mohan Singh UP election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan, co-in-charge Anurag Thakur, former BJP President Amit Shah, National General Secretary Organization BL Santosh, CM Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, UP BJP President Swatantra Dev along with other leaders infected with Kovid Singh, General Secretary of UP Organization Sunil Bansal participated in the meeting.

Voting for 403 assembly seats in UP will begin in seven phases from February 10 and will end on March 7. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
