Amid rising tensions between the United States and China, it seems the Biden administration is now lamenting the current situation as it asserted that “the US is ready to talk with Beijing”, even though in August last year What happened between two powerful countries. ,

Speaking at an event at the Stimson Center, US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns expressed hope on Tuesday that the Chinese government led by President Xi Jinping would have a similar meaning.

“Our view is that we need better channels between the two governments and deeper channels, and we’re ready to talk,” CNN quoted Burns as saying during the event. Meet us halfway on this,” he said.

US-China tension

In particular, both China and the US have been at loggerheads since then-US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan – an island nation that Beijing claims as its own.

His visit took place despite repeated warnings from Xi Jinping and his top officials.

While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit was expected to ease tensions between the two largest economies, all speculation was dashed by a last-minute mistake by alleged Chinese spy balloons. This prompted the cancellation of Blinken’s much anticipated visit to the US. At that time, the Biden administration had said that it would send its top official but did not mention the time.

Burns downplays Blinken’s possible China visit

Meanwhile, when asked about Blinken’s possible trip to China, Byrne downplayed the question and said he had no information about the rescheduling of Blinken’s flight to Beijing.

Burns insisted, “At this point it is difficult for me to predict when this type of reorganization will happen again, but we have never supported a breakdown of this relationship.”

Biden and Jinping had a ‘fruitful’ meeting in Bali

However, the top US diplomat insisted he had held several “fruitful” meetings with his Chinese counterparts, including Foreign Minister Qin Gang and his predecessor Wang Yi. Furthermore, Burns claimed that the meeting between the two presidents—Joe Biden and Jinping—in Bali was a “very productive exchange”.

In addition, the US ambassador to China claimed that the Biden administration is calling on Beijing to open all channels that were suspended after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

“It’s a good sign that we’ve been able to talk messages, trade ideas, tough issues sometimes here in Beijing, but you need a broader relationship than that,” Burns said.
