US President Joe Biden to host Quadrangular Security Dialogue Summit, PM Modi to attend

New Delhi: US President Joe Biden will host a summit this year with the leaders of Australia, India and Japan to bring about “decisive” commitments on vaccine diplomacy and infrastructure. Known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue which was established in 2007 and representatives of the four-member countries have been meeting periodically since then.

Kurt Campbell, the US coordinator for the Indo-Pacific region, said on Tuesday at an event organized by the Asia Society think tank.

The diplomatic and military arrangement between the four countries was seen as a response to the increase in Chinese economic and military power. As a response to this, the Chinese government issued a formal diplomatic protest to its members for the Quadrilateral negotiations.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the first summit this year was a virtual one attended by US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

According to a Reuters report, PM Modi said that the Quad is out of date and its agenda covering areas such as vaccines, climate change and emerging technologies makes it a force for global good. They also talked about shared values ​​and promotion of a secure, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

“We are united by our democratic values ​​and our commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. Our agenda today covers areas such as vaccines, climate change and emerging technologies, making the Quad a force for the global good. is,” he was told by Reuters.

According to media reports, before the first summit, the four countries were working to develop a plan to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to countries in Asia as part of a comprehensive strategy to counter the influence of China, and India to Three countries were urged to invest in their vaccine production capacity. In March 2021, the Quad pledged to respond to the economic and health impacts of COVID-19.
