UP flood situation: 22 districts in the grip of floods, CM Yogi took stock of the situation

New Delhi: Incessant rains in Uttar Pradesh for the past few days have raised the water level in Yamuna, Ganga, Betwa, Sharda, Kuwano and Chambal rivers, causing flood or flood like situation in many districts. Presently 22 districts of Uttar Pradesh are affected by floods and relief work is going on.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with officials to review the relief work in the state. PTI reports The UP chief minister directed deployment of nodal officers in all flood-affected villages and continuously monitor the situation.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that immediate relief material should be distributed to the affected people and a boat should be installed in each affected village. Besides, adequate number of flood posts should be set up and helpline numbers should be issued to the people.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Hamirpur and Jalaun districts.

After aerial survey in Hamirpur, the Chief Minister asked the officials of the Irrigation Department to find a permanent solution to the problem of floods in Hamirpur. At present 90 villages of Hamirpur district are affected by the floods.

The Chief Minister of UP said that the main reason for the floods in Hamirpur district is the release of water from Kota dam in Rajasthan into Yamuna river and from Mattila dam into Betwa river.

Adityanath also took stock of the flood situation in Jalaun and directed officials to expedite relief and rescue operations. He also distributed food items to the flood affected people.

In Lucknow, a state government official said in a PTI report that the rise in water level in Chambal, Betwa and other local rivers caused floods. He attributed the rise in the water level of the river to heavy rains in the adjoining states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
