UP Elections 2022: SP releases list of 159 candidates. Akhilesh from Karhal, Shivpal from Jaswantnagar

New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday released a list of 159 candidates for the upcoming UP Assembly elections 2022 after finalizing the seat-sharing formula with allies.

In the latest list released, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav figures prominently as he will be contesting from Karhal assembly seat.

Other prominent names in the list are Nahid Hasan from Kairana seat, Abdullah Azam Khan from Suar assembly seat, Azam Khan from Rampur assembly seat and Shivpal Singh Yadav from Jaswantnagar.

Former state minister Dharam Singh Saini, who joined the SP a few days ago, has been made the party’s candidate from Nakur seat in Saharanpur district.

The Samajwadi Party had said last week that former Congress leader Imran Masood, who had joined the SP, extended his support for Saini’s candidature, following reports of his displeasure over not being given a ticket.

The party has fielded jailed leader Azam Khan from his traditional Rampur seat, while his son Abdullah Azam has been made the party’s candidate from Sur Tanda assembly seat.

Akhilesh Yadav’s uncle Shivpal Yadav has been declared the party’s candidate from the family stronghold of Jaswantnagar assembly constituency in Etawah district.
