The youth waiting outside the center to appear for the exam on February 16 is former BJP MLA Rajesh Mishra alias Pappu Bharatol.

A strange sight was witnessed during the Class 12 Uttar Pradesh Board paper at an examination center in Bareilly. While most of the students were appearing for the exam in their teens, there was also a 51-year-old man who had a writing pad, laminated admit card in one hand and a water bottle in the other.

The person who was waiting outside the center to take the exam on February 16 was former BJP MLA Rajesh Mishra alias Pappu Bharatol.

“The students who came to give the exam were surprised to see me at first. But they seemed happy to see that a politician from their area is appearing for the exam with them,” said the politician.

Mishra got ticket from BJP in 2017 assembly elections and won from Bithri Chainpur constituency of Bareilly. However, he was denied ticket from the party for the assembly elections last year.

Despite his busy schedule as a politician, Mishra decided to pursue his education. “I thought I should start preparing for class 12 board exams.” Mishra believes that pursuing his studies will help him better connect with his young voters, but the move has a larger purpose as well.

“As an MLA, I realized that a large number of people, especially those who are economically weak, do not get justice because they cannot afford a good lawyer. I want to study law to help such people. To do this, it was necessary to pass class 12 boards,” said Mishra.

To become a lawyer, Mishra chose the Arts stream despite having a keen interest in science.

“I have chosen Hindi, Fine Arts, Social Studies, Civics and Sociology as my subjects for the board exams. These subjects will also help me in law studies.

As someone interested in science, his only complaint with art subjects is that he has to write a lot.

“I study from 11 pm and 1 am in the night. Even during the day, I find time to focus on studies,” said Mishra, a father of three grown children, who has completed his graduation.

Like most households who appear for board or other exams, Mishra too gets special attention from his family. “I am free to attend the dinner table and serve food wherever I am studying. My kids keep offering to help me with my studies and also tell me tricks to do better in exams and manage exam stress,” Mishra said with a smile.

He is confident that he will clear the exam and continue his studies as an active politician.

“I concentrate on my studies without any worries. I tell the same thing to younger students. Working with focus is the only mantra for success in life,” said Mishra.
