Ukraine crisis: advisory issued to stranded Indians as final phase of Operation Ganga

new Delhi: As the final phase of India’s ‘Operation Ganga’ began on Sunday, a fresh advisory was issued for Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine and Hungary.

On their Twitter handles, embassies in Hungary and Ukraine have asked stranded students to stay in their residences to arrive in Budapest’s Hungarian city center between 10am and noon and also fill out a Google form on an ‘urgent basis’ .

In a tweet, the Indian Embassy in Hungary wrote, “Important Announcement: The Embassy of India today commenced its final phase of Operation Ganga Udan. All students residing in their own accommodation (other than those arranged by the Embassy) are requested to arrive at @Hungariacitycentre, Rakoczi Ut 90, Budapest between 10 AM to 12 PM.

In an earlier tweet, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine wrote, “All Indian nationals who are still residing in Ukraine are requested to fill in the details contained in the attached Google Form on an urgent basis. Be safe, be strong.”

Notably, as part of the ongoing evacuation operation, around 13,300 people have so far returned to India from Ukraine on 63 flights, according to the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday. Also, 15 flights carrying around 2,900 Indians have landed in the last 24 hours.

In a daily briefing, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi had said that 15 flights with around 2,900 people have landed in the last 24 hours. So far, around 13,300 people have returned to India in 63 flights under Operation Ganga. In addition, thirteen flights are scheduled for the next 24 hours. He said more than 21,000 people have left Ukraine.

Meanwhile, KSDMA Commissioner, Dr Manoj Rajan said, “Through Operation Ganga, we have evacuated 448 students of Karnataka origin. 47 batches have arrived from Delhi and Mumbai. 12 flights have been scheduled for tomorrow. We have another 236 students to be deported from Ukraine.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the ongoing evacuation operation of Indian citizens and the situation in conflict-hit Ukraine.
