Twitter may soon enter the podcast arena with this feature

Micro-blogging site Twitter is likely creating a tab dedicated to podcasts, as shown in a screenshot posted by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong.

The photo shows a microphone icon in the bottom menu bar of the Twitter app, which leads to a page called “Podcasts”, The Verge reported on Wednesday. He also shared a tweet in which the feature was being tested.

The screenshots don’t show any indication of how the podcast might be displayed on the platform or if it would include the space in some way, the platform’s audio-only chatrooms.

Right now, Live Spaces are filled to the top of the Twitter feed, and it makes sense to organize them into a separate tab.

Twitter began branching out to audio when Twitter first launched Spaces in 2020 and delved even deeper into Medium with the acquisition of social podcast platform Breaker, the report said.

Spaces has been an ongoing project for the platform, which recently began allowing anyone to create a chat room and record conversations for all mobile users.

Recorded locations are already like podcasts, albeit only temporary, lasting only 30 days.

If the Twitter Podcasts feature is anything like Spotify or Apple Podcasts, users will be able to pick up and listen to podcasts in their spare time, with no rush to catch a live space broadcast or listen to a recording before time runs out.
