Twenty-five Twenty-One ended on Sunday and it was the end many were preparing for. In eight weeks, fans watched Baek Yi-jin (Nam Joo-hyuk) and Na Hee-do (Kim Tae-ri) in one episode at a time. As a mid-season hit, fans were given hints that the characters don’t end up together. Their break-up was eventually confirmed in the twenty-five Twenty-One finale.

Why do Bak Yi-jin and Na Nae-doo break up?
The final episode began with Ye-jin securing a job as a correspondent in New York months after covering the 9/11 attacks. A heartbroken Hee-do accepts his decision, suggesting that they should break up. Ye-jin travels back to South Korea to move his home there and establish a base in the US. At the airport, his suitcase is replaced by Hee-doo’s suitcase. While Hee-do decides to leave his bag at the airport, Yee-jin leaves his bag at his door. As Ye-jin and Hee-doo talk, Hee-doo suggests that their breakup is inevitable.
Hee-do reported the news to the couple’s common friends, indicating that the couple had now decided to keep their distance. However, he is forced to reach out to her to cancel their couple’s mobile plans. As a result, they speak again but this time, Ye-jin informs Hee-doo that he cannot fall back on her due to the trauma he experienced while reporting the 9/11 attacks. He decided to keep the pain to himself as he felt it would be better if the trauma affected one of them rather than gripped it.
This breaks the he-do, with the fencer expressing that the couple are only lovers when they are happy and away when they seem to be in trouble. Their fight escalates, they are pushed forward and as a result Hee-doo decides to go ahead with the break-up. After saying things she later regrets, Hee-do writes down her true feelings and thoughts in her diary which she eventually loses. The diary somehow falls into Ye-jin’s hands just the day before he leaves for New York and he learns what Hee-do was doing during his time off work. This breaks him. He captures her before leaving the country and the two have an emotional farewell.
Do Bak Yi-jin and Na-do meet again?
Seven years later, Hee-do and Yee-jin had a digital reunion after winning the gold medal in San Francisco. The interview is the same in which Ye-jin congratulates her on her marriage. The interview confirms that Hee-doo has moved on. The finale of Twenty-Five Twenty-One sets back in the present day, with Hee-do finding her hands on a lost diary.
Recalling her days with Ye-jin, she learns of a letter written by him, which he hoped would reach her when they broke up. Present Hee-do visits the tunnel that holds her happiest and saddest memories and decides to lock herself in and really let Ye-jin go.
While Hee-do is closing this chapter, Yee-jin continues his stint at news channel UBS and seems to be struggling with his password. When he opts for the ‘Forgot Password’ option, a prompt pops up, asking him who his first love is. He types ‘na hi-do’, suggesting that they may have moved on but that they still cherish their first love.
Will Twenty-Five Return With Season 2?
Till the time of writing the news, there has been no confirmation from the makers about this.
