South African star Marijane Cup all-rounder performance helped Perth Scorchers Women win their maiden Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) title by defeating Adelaide Strikers by 12 runs in Perth. He took one wicket for just 25 runs and smashed 31 off 23 balls to help his team restrict the strikers to 134/6 while chasing 147.
He was also declared player of the match. However, his teammate Dane van Niekerk could only manage 6 runs off 13 balls for the strikers and netizens abused him. The hate messages and abuses also reached Kapp, who rebuked the trollers by sharing screenshots of online abuses faced by his wife.
Kapp, South Africa’s leading fast bowler, slammed the trolls and termed the abuses as “shocking”. He urged abusers to “leave my wife alone!”
Kapp also shared the tweet of Kas Naidoo, South Africa’s first female television cricket commentator. In his tweet, Naidu has asked sports lovers to be “kind and supportive” towards the athletes.
Adelaide Strikers opener Dane van Niekerk faced his teammate Kapp in the first and third overs of the WBBL final on Saturday. Kapp and Dane got married in 2018 and continue to live happily with each other. After the completion of WBBL 2021, they returned to their home together.
In his bowling spell of 4 overs, Kapp made 146 not out in 23 balls and took 1 wicket. The Perth Scorchers managed to defend the target and win their maiden WBBL title as they restricted the Strikers to 134 runs.
