Top bowling performance of Indian women leg spinner

Indian women cricketer Poonam Yadav is one of the most experienced members of the Indian team. Hailing from the Agra district of UP, she is considered the focal point of India’s bowling attack. In his incredible international career, which began in 2013, Yadav has established itself as a mainstay and made several match-defining performances to rescue the Indian team during crisis situations.

The Arjuna Awardee may be short in stature, but opposing teams always fall for his flight, which made him one of the leading wicket-takers in the world. Yadav has played 52 ODIs and 71 T20 Internationals for India women so far. He has taken 75 and 98 wickets in those formats at bowling averages of 23 and 15 respectively.

As the cricketer celebrates his big day, we list down some of the leg spin legend’s best performances:

4/13 vs Sri Lanka, Visakhapatnam, 3rd ODI, 2014

Mithali Raj made her comeback with a 109-ball 104, helping the Indian women’s team post a total of 229/5 against their Sri Lankan counterparts. In reply, the visiting team put up a slight opposition to the pair of Lasanthi Madushani and Chamari Atapattu for the second wicket. But Yadav took the crucial four wickets to register a 95-run victory for just 13 runs in his 10-over spell. Rajeshwari Gaekwad and Sneh Ram picked up two wickets each as the Sri Lankan side fell to 134 in 44 overs.

4/24 vs South Africa, Kimberley, 2nd ODI, 2018

If opener Smriti Mandhana’s scintillating 135 runs helped her post a total of 302/3 in the stipulated 50 overs. Yadav took four wickets to beat South Africa by a huge margin of 178 runs to win the three-match series 2-0.

4/9 vs Bangladesh, Twenty20 Asia Cup Final, Kuala Lumpur, 2018

Defending a mere 112 runs, Yadav took four wickets for just nine runs in his quota of four overs, to register his career-best (so far). However, his effort went in vain, as Bangladesh’s nail-biting side won the summit clash by three wickets.

4/19 vs Australia, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Sydney, 2020

On the opening night of the T20 World Cup, defending a total of 132, the pint-sized penalty was once again at his best as he chased down Australia. Yadav’s leg-spinning masterclass gave him amazing figures of 4/19 and reduced the Aussies to 115.

3/18 vs Bangladesh, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Perth, 2020

After starring in India’s opening-night win against Australia. Yadav once again impressed and helped secure an 18-run win against Bangladesh in Perth. She finished the evening with best bowling figures of 3/18 as India made two consecutive places in Group A.
