TikTok: TikTok becomes first non-Facebook, non-gaming mobile app to hit 3 billion downloads worldwide – Times of India

Despite being banned in many countries including India, the popularity of the app does not seem to be decreasing. Downloads fell 38% from about 619 million in the first half of 2020, largely due to removal from India’s App Store, but consumer spending grew 73% over that period. As far as statistics about how well users are spending in the app, the report states that consumer spending on TikTok has now exceeded $2.5 billion globally. Tiktok saw its biggest quarter-on-quarter increase in consumer spending since Q2 2020 in Q2 2021, when it grew from $384.7 million to $534.5 million, a 39% jump.
Since January 2014, only 16 non-gaming apps have touched the $1 billion gross revenue mark, according to the report, five of which, including TikTok, have surpassed the $2.5 billion mark. These five apps are Tinder, Netflix, YouTube and Tencent Video.
TikTok was the most downloaded and highest-grossing non-gaming app in the world in the first half of 2021, with approximately 383 million first-time installs and an estimated $919.2 million in consumer spending. This is accounting for both apple app store and Google Play Store.
According to the report, “First-time downloads climbed 2 percent Q/Q to 177.5 million in Q1 2021, and 16 percent Q/Q increased to 205.4 million Q2 2021, the app’s highest since its record-breaking Q1 2020. have seen growth. When it accumulated over 315 million installs, the most any app saw in a quarter.”
