Three West Indies players test positive for COVID-19 in Pakistan; Will Miss Limited-Over Series

Three West Indies cricketers and a member of the team staff have tested positive coronavirus On reaching Pakistan and will miss the upcoming limited overs series, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said this on Saturday.

Left-arm pacers Sheldon Cottrell, all-rounders Roston Chase and Kyle Meyers and a non-coaching staff member “tested positive in Karachi and will therefore be unavailable to participate in the upcoming Pakistan series,” CWI said in a statement.

All four were fully vaccinated and had no major symptoms. They will be in isolation for 10 days till they return negative PCR test results.

“Our arrival testing protocol in Pakistan has led to four confirmed COVID-19 positives,” CWI chief executive Johnny Grave said.

“These were confirmed while the players and staff were still in room isolation, so despite this significant setback to our preparation plan, we are confident that the tour can continue as everyone else tested negative for PCR before arriving in Pakistan. and returned two negative PCRs. They have been in Karachi.

“It is impossible to completely remove the risk of COVID-19 infection from a cricket tour, despite the fact that many of our players are living in an almost constant bio-secure bubble since before the CPL.

“This unusual loss of three of our players will seriously affect our team’s preparations, but the rest of the team is in good spirits and will start training today before our first game on Monday.”

Cottrell, Chase and Meyers have been named in the squad for the three-match T20I series starting Monday. Chase was also selected for three One Day Internationals to be played in Karachi from 18 to 22 December.
