Sindri : Additional Judicial Magistrate, Dhanbad (ADJ-8) pure bliss, died in a road accident on Wednesday morning. After the incident, the Dhanbad Bar Association abstained from the day-long judicial work to condole Anand’s death.
Anand had reportedly left his Judge Colony house for a morning walk at around 5 am. A few minutes later, a speeding vehicle hit him at a distance of a few meters from Randhir Verma Chowk on the main road. For some time, Anand could not be identified. But when his relatives started looking for him and informed the police and the news of the death of a person in a road accident reached them, Anand’s bodyguard went to the hospital and identified him.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Ram Sharma, District and Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar PandeyOn receiving information about Anand’s death, Chief Judicial Magistrate Arjun Sao and other judicial officers visited the hospital.
Dhanbad SSP Sanjeev Kumar said that from the CCTV footage it appears that the ADJ was crushed by a speeding auto. “We are still probing the matter,” he said.
A purported CCTV footage of the incident, which started doing rounds on social media in the evening, showed that an auto with two passengers made a sudden left turn and hit Anand from behind while he was walking on the side of the road. While the footage raised suspicion, the Dhanbad SSP said that the police were yet to receive a formal complaint from the family. In Ranchi, the Jharkhand High Court took suo motu cognizance of the incident.
Anand was hearing the sensitive Ranjay Singh murder case, a close aide of former Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh. He had refused bail to the infamous UP shooter Abhinav Singh and Aman Singh’s dependent Ravi Thakur three days ago.
