Taylor Swift, Ariana DeBos, Stephen King, Others Slam Abortion Ruling: America You Are in the Fight of Your Life

The US Supreme Court on Friday overturned the historic Roe v. Wade decision, ending nearly 50 years of the constitutional right to abortion. The decision has drawn much criticism because it threatens women’s rights and reproductive health. Several Hollywood bigwigs have been sharply criticizing the decision. Pop star Taylor Swift tweeted, “I am absolutely horrified that we are here – that after so many decades of people fighting for women’s rights for their bodies, today’s decision has taken that away from us.”

Padma Lakshmi, the host and writer of the cookery show, said, “People will still get abortions. These processes will not stop just because Roe v. Wade is reversed. It will only prevent safe, legal abortion from occurring. Everyone should be able to make the decision on when or not to start a family on their own terms when the time is right for them. This freedom and dignity is something that we all must fight to preserve.”

She continued, “I wish more people would understand that the decision to have an abortion is deeply personal and complex. It is a decision that should be treated with compassion and empathy, not slander or criminality.”

Actress Ariana DeBos also criticized the decision. She wrote, “Yeah, no one is telling me what I can and can’t do with my body. No one is telling me who I should love or marry in that matter. America…you Ready for the fight of your life.”

Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette was equally candid. She said: “This Supreme Court is an absolute disaster. From giving people the right to carry guns to taking away women’s right to autonomy over their bodies. We weren’t being reactive, we saw it coming.”

Renowned author Stephen King had a sarcastic response. “This is by far the best Supreme Court of the 19th century,” he wrote.

The decision comes months after a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito said the top court was set to overturn the ruling of a 1973 case limiting access to abortion in the United States. Wade, women had the right to abortion based on their constitutional right to privacy over their bodies. By law, states cannot ban abortion before the viability of the fetus, at which point the fetus can survive outside the womb.

Overturning a landmark 1973 ruling, a Conservative-dominated court said, “The Constitution does not provide for the right to abortion; Roe and Casey have been dismissed; and the right to regulate abortion among the people and their elected representatives.” is returned,” the court said.
