Superstar Rajinikanth has thanked his fans, political leaders and officials for their congratulatory messages after the actor was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian cinema. The award was presented to him by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu during the 67th National Film Awards ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. He has become the third person from Tamil cinema to be honored with the prestigious award. Earlier, actor Sivaji Ganesan and director Balachander received this award.
Taking to Twitter, Rajinikanth thanked everyone who congratulated him for winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

The 67th National Film Awards ceremony was held on 25 October to present awards to all the winners of cinema for their films released in 2019. The names of the award winners were announced on 22 March. The National Film Awards are India’s most prestigious film. Awards recognizing excellence in cinematic achievements.
Rajinikanth was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the ceremony. Everyone present stood up and bowed to him.
A video of Rajinikanth’s film journey was played at the ceremony. The video also had congratulatory messages from Mohanlal, Khushboo, Amitabh Bachchan, composer AR Rahman and some of their directors and producers. Amitabh Bachchan described Rajinikanth as “beyond the ordinary”.
After his win, the 70-year-old actor thanked his directors, co-stars, technicians, distributors, producers, exhibitors, fans and the media. He dedicated this award to his mentor and guru’s Balachander Sir. “I remember them with great gratitude,” he said.
Earlier on October 24, he had thanked the government for conferring the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
In 2000, he was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan award in 2016.
Currently, he is awaiting the release of his upcoming project ‘Annathe’, which is scheduled for Diwali.
