‘Spirit of Resilience Under Severe Test’: Sonia Gandhi Says Road Ahead for Congress’ Challenge

new Delhi: Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party and while discussing the future of the party, said that the road ahead for the party is more challenging than ever.

Calling for unity at all levels of the organisation, Gandhi said that he was determined to do whatever was necessary to improve the condition of the party. She said, “Our spirit of resilience is under severe test. Unity is paramount at all levels of the organization, I am determined to do whatever is necessary to ensure it.”

Gandhi further said that the revival of Congress is not only a matter of importance for the party, but also necessary for the democracy and society of the country.

Addressing the CPP meeting, he also hit out at the BJP, saying the ruling party’s “divisive agenda” has become a regular part of political discussions in all states and history is being “mischievously distorted”. So that fuel can be added to its agenda.

“The divisive and polarizing agenda of the ruling party and its leaders has now become a regular feature of state-to-state political discourse. History, not only ancient but contemporary as well, is mischievously distorted and the malicious use of facts to add fuel to it. Agenda. It is up to all of us to stand up and confront these forces of hatred and prejudice,” Sonia Gandhi said according to a report in PTI.

“We will not allow them to harm the bonds of harmony and harmony that have sustained and enriched our diverse society for centuries,” he told party MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Accusing the ruling establishment of targeting the opposition, its leaders and workers, he said the full force of the state machinery has been thrown against them.

This was the first Congress Parliamentary Party meeting after the party’s defeat in the recent assembly elections in five states. Apart from former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, all party MPs in both the Houses of Parliament attended the meeting.

Congress is trying to corner the government on the issue of inflation and increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG gas in the second phase of the current budget session.
