Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse gets banned in UAE, Saudi Arabia; here’s why

New Delhi: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the most recent Miles Morales film, has been banned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and several other Middle Eastern countries. According to the source, the existence of a trans flag that appears briefly in the film is responsible for the ban.

Censorship laws have reportedly prevented Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse from being released in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Saudi Cinema, the highly anticipated animated picture will not be published in parts of the Gulf region, which is overseen by the General Commission for Audiovisual Media, because it ‘contradicts content control’, according to Unilad.

While the reason for the ban is unknown, many fans believe it is related to the brief appearance of a pro-trans banner, with many fans believing that Gwen is a trans-ally.

While little is known about Gwen Stacy’s teenage experience, there are scenes in the film where she confronts her father about her identity. In one scene, a trans flag with the slogan ‘Protect Trans Kids’ can be seen on the wall of Gwen’s room.

There is also ongoing speculation about Gwen’s gender identity.

Screenwriters and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that Into the Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse were part of Miles Morales’ trilogy based on Beyond the Spider-Verse. will end with The third installment of the trilogy will be released on March 29, 2024.
