There are reports that he has declined the opportunity to prove himself in the longer format ahead of India’s two-Test series in the West Indies by being ruled out of the Duleep Trophy.
It is believed that Ishan Kishan could be a contender for the captaincy of East Zone in the domestic first-class tournament to be held from 28 June to 16 July. But now Abhimanyu Easwaran will take charge of the team. According to a member of the East Zone selection committee, he had inquired about the possibility of selection of Ishaan Kishan from the convenor of the zonal selection committee, Debasish Chakraborty.
“Since he is India’s senior white-ball player, he would have got the captaincy,” the selector told PTI. As per reports, once Ishan Kishan informed about his decision, Tripura selector Jayant Dey considered Wriddhiman Saha as a possible candidate and approached him. However, Saha also turned it down as he did not want to participate in any competition as his India aspirations have been around for a long time. East Zone will now lead from Abhishek Porel.
