bollywood actors Sonam KapoorA top official said on Friday that posters and photographs on social media will be used to reach out to a large number of voters, especially the youth, ahead of the Rajinder Nagar bypoll in Delhi. He has been chosen as an icon by the election officials. A total of 1,64,698 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the June 23 bypolls, Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said at a press conference here. “We are running several campaigns and activities to create awareness ahead of the by-elections, such as street plays and social media campaigns to reach out to young voters. And, actor Sonam Kapoor has been chosen as an icon of voters. Raise awareness among the people,” he said.

Kapoor was chosen as an icon for the New Delhi district about two months ago. Singh said cricketer Yash Dhul was recently appointed as the “state icon” for Delhi to promote voter awareness among the youth. He said photographs of the film actor would be used on posters and social media to reach out to more and more voters, especially the youth.

The Delhi CEO told reporters that a total of 1,64,698 voters are eligible to cast their votes, while the counting of votes will be done on June 26. Out of the total eligible voters for the by-election, 92,221 are male, 72,473 female and four are voters. As for the third gender, he said. Also, there are 1,899 voters in the age group of 18-19 in this assembly seat.

From deployment of security personnel to monitoring election code violations and creating voter awareness to ensuring necessary facilities, all preparations are being made so that the upcoming Rajinder Nagar by-election is inclusive, accessible and fair, the Delhi CEO’s office said.
