Shiv Sena will contest UP, Goa assembly polls: Sanjay Raut

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said his party will contest assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Goa early next year and claimed that farmers’ organizations in western Uttar Pradesh are ready to support his party. Talking to reporters here, Raut said the Shiv Sena will field candidates on 80 to 100 seats in Uttar Pradesh (which has a 403-member assembly), while it will contest around 20 seats in the Goa assembly (which comprises 40 seats).

The Rajya Sabha member said, “Farmers organizations in western UP have expressed their willingness to support Shiv Sena and we may form an alliance with smaller parties. In Goa, efforts are on to find out formula like MVA. Let’s see if We succeed.”

Raut further said that Shiv Sena has cadre in both these states and is contesting elections irrespective of success or failure.

After the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena severed ties with long-term ally BJP over the issue of sharing the chief minister’s post, and formed an alliance with the NCP and Congress to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state. .

Asked about Vijay Rupani’s resignation as Gujarat chief minister, Raut said, “It is an internal matter of BJP, outsiders need not comment. I have known Rupani since he was with me in Rajya Sabha.” were members.”

“Last time the BJP was successful in crossing the majority mark in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly. This time the situation is not good for the party,” he claimed.

Asked about Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s role at the national level, Raut said, “Thackeray has the potential to become a national leader. Maharashtra’s chief minister is a national leader.”
