Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has started the Kanyashree project in the state with the thinking of girls so that they can move forward on the path of higher education. Kanyashree may have been introduced, but the mindset of many girls has not changed. He married the girl at a young age. Samples of such incidents have been found in Dakshin Dinajpur.
It is learned that his grandmother married a 14-year-old girl in a village in South Dinajpur. According to the law, marrying a girl of 14 years is a punishable offence. But regardless of the law, the grandmother has fixed the responsibility by marrying the daughter of the house. The Kanyashree project did not ignite them. She is not even aware that if the girl is a virgin then what benefits can she get in future. The baby girl is already two months pregnant. The girl’s grandmother said, ‘The girl has no parents. The financial resources of the family are also not good. So he got the girl married early and paid off the loan. It is known that the girl also has a younger sister who is 10 years old. It is believed that the younger sister will also have the same status as her sister.
Other people of the area are also outraged by the incident. According to him why should such a scene be seen in the twenty-first century. Why should we see such incidents when the state government is making so many arrangements for the education of girls. The administration was not the first to know about such incidents. However, after coming to know about this news, action has been assured at the administrative level. Earlier, the police intervened several times to stop the marriage of minors.
