Apart from the education and health departments, the state police chief has also been directed to prepare a special plan to ensure the safety of students as schools and colleges in Kerala reopen within a few weeks.

All the station in-charges (SHOs) will convene a meeting of school principals and school management representatives of their area to discuss child safety and health related issues. The CM said that it would be the responsibility of the police to ensure the functioning of school vehicles carrying children. The assistance of the Motor Vehicles Department can also be taken in this regard.

“Repair of school vehicles should be completed by October 20. Whether children are brought in private vehicles or in school vehicles, drivers must have 10 years of work experience. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that a teacher should be appointed as the School Safety Officer in all schools.

The Chief Minister said that before the opening of the school, a micro-level plan should be prepared with the participation of parent-teacher committees of primary health centers, local self-governing bodies, education department and health workers.
