The model seen in the picture is Yanik Fernandes, who is represented by a Mumbai based modeling agency Ft. artist’s. In a series of photographs, she can be seen in a pair of white tights and fine jewelery from the designer’s new collection.
Some social media users commented on the designer’s post saying that the pictures were not good as they contained a semi-naked person. One user wrote, “It’s just weird and unattractive. It’s trying too hard and not something everyone likes. I think this campaign is too bullshit. It’s openly for no reason is sexual.”
Another person wrote, “Very disappointed to see this campaign. @sabyasachiofficial is not going well with your brand Sabya (sir).”
However, another section of people were eager to support the designer and his creative vision behind doing this shoot. Responding to the trolls, a user wrote, “I love the general asymmetry of the middle class Indian. Same dude, “Wow, so hot”, fire” and heart emoji reactions from the same ‘tropic of Calcutta’ campaign in other pics of Sabyasachi. And yet a pose that conveys something of a “masculine” stereotype shocks basic brown boys and girls in horror. God, you are all basic Air Force.”
Supporting the campaign, another follower wrote, “Love it. The coming patriarchal BS comments and homophobic bullshit comes from people who don’t complain if it’s a half-naked woman.”
