As far as the scam is concerned, mobile users are threatened to submit documents for eKYC verification by calling a certain number within 24 hours of receipt of the KYC message to avoid discontinuation of services.
A fraudster claiming to be from the customer care team calls or sends an SMS regarding incomplete KYC form. He requests the customer to install a Quick Help app from the Google Play store to help him. Since no such app exists, when the user tries to install it, he is redirected to the Teamviewer Quick Support app. Teamviewer Quick Support App allows fraudsters to take over the device and the accounts associated with the device remotely. After that whatever the user sees on his mobile screen is also visible to the fraudster who then secretly takes a screenshot of the online banking password.
Keeping in mind the rampant misuse of TeamViewer app, developers have recently added face and fingerprint lock for smartphones to prevent unauthorized access. While Teamviewer is a well-known platform for IT professionals, it is considered as one of the most dangerous apps in India.
