Nearly two years later, Du Plessis once again finds himself under the umbrella of the Super Kings. The 38-year-old has been named captain of the Joburg Super Kings and is happy to be back in yellow

Cricket South Africa is all set to launch the country’s first T20 league which will be known as SA20. This is going to be a new chapter in South African cricket history, which will also witness the re-association of veteran batsman Faf du Plessis with the Super Kings franchise.

The former Proteas captain was an integral part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) before moving to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last year. He has also been a part of CSK’s victorious journey in 2018 and 2021. However, ahead of the 2022 edition, the dynamic batsman was roped in by RCB and named after Virat Kohli as the captain.

Nearly two years later, Du Plessis once again finds himself under the umbrella of the Super Kings. The 38-year-old has been named captain of the Joburg Super Kings and is happy to be back in yellow.

Speaking at the captain’s press conference on Saturday, du Plessis said, “Good kit, back in yellow for me. A team I played with for a long time in the IPL. And I think we all started in South Africa.” Excited about a new tournament coming up.”

Given his bond with the Super Kings family in the past, du Plessis knows the franchise inside out. He believes that the team will provide a huge opportunity to youngsters to flourish in their respective careers.

“It’s important and Graeme touched on it a little bit. It is an opportunity for young South African players to rub shoulders with the best coaches in the game with players like Stephen Fleming, Eric Simmons among others. In terms of fast-tracking talent and people’s minds, there’s no better opportunity for this,” du Plessis said.

“I’ve seen firsthand how good they are as a management group, and how good the franchise is. So, it’s a pleasure to play for such a team. So, as a player, you just go out there and give your best.” Want to perform. You don’t have any pressure from the management so it’s very easy to play. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this team.”

The tournament will begin on January 10 with the opening clash between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals at Newlands. The next day, Joburg Super Kings will take on Durban Super Giants at the Kingsmead in Durban.
