Russia, which invaded Ukraine more than 10 months ago, did not immediately comment on Shevchenkov’s reports, which Ukraine withdrew in September after months of Russian occupation.

A Russian missile hit a village market in the east ukraine Regional prosecutors said two women were killed on Monday and four others, including a 10-year-old girl, were injured.

Footage released by public broadcaster Saspilne on the Telegram messaging app showed rescue workers wading through large piles of rubble, burning debris and a large crater in Shevchenkov, about 80 km (50 miles) southeast of the city of Kharkiv.

A photo posted online by the Ukrainian president’s office showed rescue workers trying to pull out a woman in a thick winter coat. Her head and hands emerged from under the rubble but it was not clear whether she was alive.

“The Russian military committed another act of terror against the civilian population – a child was injured, two women were killed,” the regional prosecutor’s office said. “An enemy missile struck the area of ​​the local market.”

It said in a written statement that it had launched a possible war crime investigation, citing preliminary information that the attack came from an S-300 air defense system in Russia’s Belgorod region bordering Ukraine.

Reuters could not immediately verify the reports. Russia, which invaded Ukraine more than 10 months ago, did not immediately comment on Shevchenkov’s reports that Ukraine withdrew in September after months of Russian occupation.

Criticizing Russia over the attack, the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Andrey Yermak, wrote on a telegram: “Common terrorist.”

The governor of Kharkiv region, Oleh Sinyhubov, wrote on Telegram that a 60-year-old woman had died and the other victims were being treated in hospital.

Saspilin quoted a local official as saying that at least three pavilions were destroyed and a shopping center was damaged in the attack, but that Monday was not a market day.
