Paris: Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi And Mohamed Salahi Friday was named as the three finalists for fifa Best male player award, while Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putelas was nominated for the female award.
Poland’s star Lewandowski won last year’s FIFA award, but he had to settle for second place in the 2021 Ballon d’Or voting behind Messi, who won the accolade for a record seventh time.
The awards ceremony will be held virtually from the headquarters of FIFA in Zurich on 17 January.
Putelas, Barcelona teammate Jennifer Hermoso and Chelsea Australian striker Sam Kerr are finalists for the FIFA Best Female Player award. These three were also the top three vote-getters for the Ballon d’Or.
The winner will replace England’s Lucy Bronze, who had won the previous prize.
The best male and female player, coach and goalkeeper awards are voted on by the captains and coaches of all national teams around the world, as well as an online ballot from fans and a select few journalists.
Voting ended on 10 December.
Manuel Neuer, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Edouard Mendy are in the running for best men’s goalkeeper, while Roberto Mancini, Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola are the three nominees for best men’s coach.
Louise Cortes, who led Barcelona women last season, is up against Chelsea coach Emma Hess and the former Netherlands boss, who is now in charge of England, for the top women’s coach.
