Kanpur: Riya Shakya, the daughter of Bidhuna MLA Vinay Shakya, has written a letter to the Superintendent of Police Auraiya, demanding the safety of herself and her brother.
In her letter to the SP on Wednesday evening, Riya did not mention from whom she and her brother were facing threat to their lives.
The letter said that as the assembly elections are near, she (Riya) will step into politics as her father’s successor. Hence, there is a need for a protective shield for him and his brother.
Meanwhile, the SP has directed the officer concerned to understand the family matters and take any step only after thorough investigation.
Riya, a resident of village Bhataura Kotwali BidhunaOn Tuesday, she came into limelight after a video went viral on social media in which she could be seen claiming that her father has been kidnapped. However, his statement was rejected by his father and sitting BJP MLA Vinay Shakya on Wednesday.
He told reporters on Wednesday that his daughter’s allegations were false and baseless and she was safe at her ancestral residence in Etawah’s Shanti Colony along with her mother and brother. He said that the act done by his daughter is just a political gimmick. The police also termed Riya’s allegations as baseless.
Later on Wednesday evening, through a letter, Riya appealed to SP Abhishek Verma for her and her brother’s safety. Siddhartha, It was also said in the letter that he had entered politics considering his father’s successor. “It creates stalemate in the family,” she said in the letter.
SP Auraiya said, ‘Riya has sought police protection. Keeping in mind what Riya said, I have directed Circle Officer (CO) Bidhuna Mahendra Pratap Singh to investigate the matter. A decision on this will be taken only after a thorough investigation.”
However, a senior police officer with knowledge of the investigation said that the applicant has not mentioned anything in particular as to who and his brother are facing threat to their lives.
To recall, Riya Shakya on Tuesday had accused her uncle and grandmother of taking their father with them and requested the state government to probe their father’s reunification with the family. “My father’s health is not well. We are working for BJP in the area but our uncle took my father to Lucknow. I request the government to help us trace my father’s whereabouts,” Riya had said.
She also said in the video that her father had suffered a brain stroke on May 1, 2018, after which he was admitted to SGPGI, Lucknow. His father is unable to speak clearly and his thinking power has also decreased after the operation.
