The protesting farmers claim that these laws will do away with the MSP system and leave them at the mercy of big corporations. More than 10 rounds of talks with the government touting the laws as major agricultural reforms have failed to break the deadlock between the two sides.
Talking about SAD’s new alliance with Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Badal said the alliance between the two parties is permanent and the Akali Dal’s story with the BJP is over.
On the party’s future course of action, Badal said the SAD is talking to various regional parties so that they can all come on one platform before the 2024 general elections.
“Regional forces need to come together. Regional forces are more grounded and have a better understanding of the people. We are talking to different parties. Regional parties should come together and before the 2024 general elections A front should be formed. And I am sure this front will emerge as a very strong force before 2024.
Badal further said that it would be a second front instead of a third front as the main opposition. Congress Now there is no All India Party. The main target of the new front will be the BJP.
In the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab, Badal said that agricultural legislation would be the main issue for the Akali Dal and “if the party comes to power, it will provide government jobs to the family members of all the farmers who lost their lives during this period”. In addition, the government will provide free education to the children of deceased farmers and pension to the parents of those who die at an early age, Badal said.
He also said that the SAD will bet big on new and young faces and try to field more women in the assembly elections to be held early next year.
Asked about reports of alleged spying of politicians, activists and journalists using Pegasus spyware, Badal termed it as an attack on democracy and demanded setting up of a joint parliamentary committee.JPC) headed by an opposition MP to investigate the matter.
“This entire incident of investigation is an attack on the Constitution, democracy and rights of the people. It is totally immoral and a JPC headed by an opposition MP should be constituted to probe it,” Badal said.
