The arrested trio: (L to R) AAO Anil Sharma, DTO Dilip Tiwari and middleman Kapil Sharma

ACB director general B L Soni stated that a person had approached the agency and lodged a complaint against the accused DTO, identified as Dilip Tiwari, and the AAO, Anil Kumar Sharma. tnn
“He alleged that both of them were asking for a bribe to ensure faster registration of vehicles purchased by his firm through Bharatpur RTO. Both asked the complainant to hand over the money to one Kapil Sharma, the middleman who accepts bribes on their behalf,” Soni said.
The complaint was verified by ACB Jaipur DIG Dr Vishnukant. After verification, the Dausa unit laid a trap, led by additional superintendent Mahendra Kumar Sharma.
“We arrested Kapil Sharma red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 37,200 on the behalf of the DTO and AAO. The two were also arrested later,” Soni said.
Senior ACB officers stated that they had noticed such malpractices earlier too, but such cases require a complainant to take action. “We found the accused were asking for bribes for every small to big work at the RTO,” said a senior officer who was part of the team that laid the trap.
“Searches have begun at the residential and office premises of the accused and a case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been lodged against the accused,” said a senior officer.
