Punjab Assembly Elections: PM Modi’s security breach will be seen in BJP’s election pitch

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to expose the violation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security team on Wednesday to expose the law and order situation in the border state of Punjab.

Modi, who addressed the party’s rally in Ferozepur, could not reach the venue due to security violations by the protesters who blocked the road. The Union Home Ministry said in a statement that the PM remained stranded on the flyover for about 20 minutes.

The BJP is ready to attack the Congress government for such a serious security lapse in its election campaign.

BJP President JP Nadda took to Twitter to launch a scathing attack on the Channi government. He tweeted, “Fearing a crushing defeat at the hands of the voters, the Congress government of Punjab did everything possible to thwart the programs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji in the state. Security lapse as far as PM is concerned. The protesters were allowed to go in the way of the Prime Minister while the CS and DGP of Punjab assured the SPG that the way was clear.

The party also criticized the Congress for “not caring that the PM has to pay homage to Bhagat Singh and other martyrs, and lay the foundation stone for major development works”.

Speaking to News18.com, BJP national general secretary and Punjab in-charge Dushyant Gautam said that by stopping the PM from visiting the land of gurus and martyrs, Congress has attempted to kill democracy. “The PM was coming to give a gift of schemes worth ₹4,500 crore to the people of Punjab. It is the failure of the government that the PM could not reach the venue. People were waiting to hear the PM’s speech, but the way his security was breached, it points towards a bigger conspiracy.”

Senior party leaders said the protesters stopped 3,500 buses and allegedly misbehaved with women. One of the party leaders present at the rally site alleged, “They were so scared of today’s incident that they stopped buses, misbehaved with women and when they did all this, the police helped them.”

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh took a jibe at the Congress by calling the government a “friend of Pakistan’s Imran Khan” for failing to ensure the PM’s security.
