Lucknow: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday accused the Uttar Pradesh police of attacking Dalits in Azamgarh and demanded action against the accused and adequate compensation to the victims.

“News of attack on Dalit families in Palia village of Azamgarh. Houses were damaged and cases registered. This shows the anti-Dalit mindset of the government. Immediate action should be taken against the accused and compensation should be given to the victims,” ​​he said in Hindi. I said in a tweet.

According to the police, there was a dispute between a doctor and some people in Palia village of Raunapar police station area on June 29, after which two policemen posted on a picket intervened in the matter.

The police allege that the village head and his associate attacked the policemen.

Congress’ Azamgarh district unit president Praveen Kumar Singh claimed that on the same night, the police surrounded the Dalit settlement in the village and damaged their houses and looted them. After this the young man fled from the village.

“Congressmen are staging a sit-in against the incident. We are demanding that action be taken against the guilty policemen and compensation to the families,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Singh said that a case has been registered against 11 named people and 135 unidentified people. He also said that the police were attacked and efforts are on to nab the accused.

Police also said that houses were damaged by unidentified people.
