Country’s ‘biggest’ High Court

In February 2015, a tender was floated for the new 165-acre High Court complex, and construction began in June 2015 with a timeline of 30 months. However, after a long delay, the design will finally be unveiled on Wednesday.

“In terms of area, it is bigger than any High Court in India and even the Supreme Court (22 acres). The building has been built at a cost of Rs 550 crore, 500 CCTV cameras have been installed. All 1,200 advocates will sit separately in two halls with 540 chambers and the Advocate General building, said a senior official of the Jharkhand Building Construction Department.

It has a 30,000 sq ft library, parking for 2,000 vehicles and 25 lavish courtrooms with air conditioning for hearing cases. The library has more than five lakh legal books in which judges and other legal officers can sit and study.

Spread over about 68 Sq. land, the High Court consists of three blocks. The judicial block has two floors. Of these, 13 are built on the first floor including the court of the Chief Justice, while 12 are built on the second floor.

There is a separate room for typists. Apart from this, barracks have also been made for 70 police officers.

The office of the Advocate General has been set up separately. There will be an office of the Advocate General, four Additional Advocates General and a room for 95 government advocates.

Apart from this, a conference room with a capacity of 30 people has also been made. The new building of the High Court has parking, a court room, an advocate hall, a registry building and other arrangements. Its total construction area is about 68 acres.

To keep the campus green, 4436 saplings have been planted. The complex also includes a crèche, dispensary, railway booking counter and post office.

Solar energy will be used to light the campus. Solar power alone would provide about 60% of the region’s electricity supply. A 2,000 KVA solar power plant has been installed in the parking area for this purpose.

In addition, two 500- to 500-kV generators and one 1,500-kV generator have been added to the 2,000-kV backup generator network to provide power.
