Zydus Cadila has sought approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for the emergency use of its corona vaccine Zycov-D. This vaccine is for people above 12 years of age. Its Phase-3 trials have been completed. The company says that it has a plan to make 12 crore doses annually.

If Zycov-D is approved, it will be the fifth approved vaccine in the country. Two days ago, the US company Moderna’s Corona vaccine has been approved by DCGI. Earlier, Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik-V had got approval.

Target to make 10 crore doses in a year
Phase-3 trials of Jaykov-D were conducted on 28,000 people. There were 1000 of them, whose age was 12-18 years. The company conducted these trials during the peak of the second wave of Corona. Zydus Cadila says that its vaccine is also effective on the delta variant of Corona.

Cadila Health Care MD Sharvil Patel said that we expect to produce 10 million doses of ZyCoV-D every month from August and 5 crore by December. Our target is to prepare 10 crore doses in a year.

Jaycov-D is needle free vaccine
This vaccine will be administered with a jet injector instead of a needle. Jet injectors are widely used in America. This allows the vaccine to be injected into the skin of people under high pressure. At the same time, the needle injections that are usually used, fluid or medicine goes into the muscles. Compressed gas or spring is used for pressure in jet injectors.

What are the benefits of getting the vaccine with a jet injector?
The first advantage is that it reduces the pain to the person who is getting it, because it does not go inside your muscle like a normal injection. The second advantage is that the risk of spreading the infection is much less than the needle injection.

The vaccines currently being administered in India are double doses. At the same time, there are also single-dose vaccines like Johnson & Johnson and Sputnik Lite, which may come to India in the coming months, but the Zykov-D vaccine is different from all these. Not one or two but three doses of this Indian vaccine will be applied.

The world’s first DNA based vaccine will be
Zycov-D is a DNA-plasmid vaccine. This vaccine uses genetic material to increase the immunity of the body. Just as Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines in many countries including the US use mRNA to increase immunity, in the same way it uses plasmid-DNA.

India now has 3 vaccines and one powder
At present, Coveshield of Serum Serum Institute and Covaxin of Bharat Biotech are being used in vaccination drives in the country. Russia’s Sputnik-V has also been approved for use in India. Apart from this, DRDO has made 2-DG medicine for the prevention of Kovid. Its emergency use has also been approved. It is a powder, which is dissolved in water.
