Ponniyin Selvan 2 Box Office Collection Day 1: Aishwarya Rai, Vikram and Jayam Ravi starrer PS2 has registered an impressive collection on Day 1.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 box office collection Day 1: Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2 has taken a promising start at the box office. The Tamil period drama, which has also been released in Hindi, Telugu and other regional languages, stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Jayaram in pivotal roles. Initial reports claim that PS2 has collected around Rs 38 crore across all languages.
Citing Sacnilk, Hindustan Times reported that Ponniyin Selvan 2 has collected Rs 25 crore on Day 1 in its home state of Tamil Nadu. The collection is comparatively less in the home state than that of PS1, which collected Rs 40 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, reports also state that Ponniyin Selvan 2 has collected an estimated Rs 3-4 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Karnataka collection on the first day of PS2 is between Rs 4-5 crore. According to a report in India Today, PS2’s opening day estimates were around Rs 10 crore. However, the jump in collections was courtesy of good word of mouth.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the continuation of PS1. The two-part film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan. Mani Ratnam wanted to make a film on this popular book for years and finally got the chance to release it last year.
Aishwarya Rai and Vikram’s performances in Ponniyin Selvan 2 are being praised. News18’s review of the film reads, “Aishwarya reminds us that she flourished as an actress under Ratnam’s guidance. She expresses her inner turmoil, her heartbreak and her wounds with great ease. You can tell that the camera surrenders to him. He is brilliantly supported by Vikram. Their first scene together is nothing more than locking their eyes and exchanging a few lines but Vikram conveys the feeling of being hurt admirably. Their confrontation scene is one of the best scenes in the film.”
