Police recovered black stone idol of Lord Vishnu in Bangladesh

According to a media report on Thursday, police in Bangladesh have recovered a black stone idol of Lord Vishnu, believed to be more than 1,000 years old, from a teacher.

The Daily Star newspaper reported that the police recovered the idol from Boro Goli village in Kamilla district.

The black stone idol is about 23 inches in height and 9.5 inches in width. Its weight is about 12 kg.

Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi police station, said: “A teacher named Abu Yusuf had found the idol a month and a half ago. But he did not inform us. On a tip-off, we recovered it from his house. Monday night.”

However, Yusuf said: “I saw this idol about 20-22 days ago while digging mud from a pond. We could not inform the police as we were busy with work.”

Ataur Rahman, former regional director of the Chattogram Divisional Archeology Department, said, “The lost Lord Vishnu idol is of great value. It is probably more than 1,000 years old. It should be immediately handed over to the Mainamati Museum for proper preservation.”
