PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline soon: How to check whether your PAN is linked with your PAN?

PAN Aadhaar Linking: The last date to link your Permanent Address Number (PAN) with your Aadhaar is fast approaching, with the deadline of March 31. Linking your PAN with Aadhaar number is one of the most important tasks the government wants you to do by this month. Though the Central Board of Direct Taxes or CBDT has postponed the last date for linking Aadhaar and PAN several times, the department has made it clear that it is mandatory to complete the task. If not done within the stipulated time, your PAN will become inoperative.

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has already relaxed several deadlines related to filing income tax. If the PAN becomes inoperative, the Income Tax Department will consider that the person has not submitted wok And hence liable to face the consequences of the same.

Not only this, if your PAN is not linked with your bank account, then you will have to pay double TDS (Tax Deduction at Source). If your bank account is linked with PAN, then 10 per cent TDS is applicable.

As per Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, every person who has PAN as on 1st July 2017 and who is eligible to obtain Aadhaar, must link PAN with Aadhaar. The taxpayer should mention the Aadhaar number while filing the income tax return. If PAN is not linked with Aadhaar before the due date, PAN will become inoperative. Under section 139AA, it is mandatory to mention Aadhaar number while applying for a new PAN card.

How to check whether your PAN and Aadhar card are linked or not?

1) Visit the official site of Income Tax Department – www.incometax.gov.in.

2) Click on Quick Links option. There you will get the option to check ‘Link Aadhaar Status’. You have to click on it.

3) After this you will see a new screen in your computer or mobile. Here you have to enter your PAN and Aadhaar number.

4) After filling the details, click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.

5) Your Aadhaar-PAN status will be displayed on the page. Example: Your PAN (PAN Aadhar) is linked to Aadhar Number (Aadhaar Number) if they are linked.

Here’s how you can link PAN-Aadhaar

There are many ways to link PAN with Aadhaar. For one, you can do it online in two ways – without logging into the income tax portal or logging into your account. You will need to enter your PAN and Aadhaar details to link them with other required details.

Apart from these methods, you can also link your Aadhaar card with your PAN card through SMS for new updates from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the Aadhaar issuing authority. The linking process can be done by sending SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered phone number.
