Dharwad: Educational institutions should provide value based education to help in overall development of the student, said the former Public Works Department Secretary GC Tallur.
Dr. DC Pavate delivering the Endowment Lecture on ‘Education and Ethics in India’ organized by Karnataka University He said here on Tuesday that the present education system focuses more on making the student employable rather than enhancing the knowledge.
He said that since the British period, several commissions have been set up to suggest measures to improve educational standards, but none of them have ever laid emphasis on moral education.
He lamented that many eminent personalities including Mahatma Gandhi always advocated the incorporation of moral values in education, but his suggestions were not fully implemented.
Tallur said that teaching ethics and spirituality will help in the holistic development of the personality of the student. Karnataka University Vice Chancellor KB Gudasi said National Education Policy 2020 There has to be a drastic change in the education system. He said that here the student has been given the freedom to choose the subject of his interest and focus more on research and development.

He said that the new education policy will bring about a massive change in the education sector and will make India more strong and vibrant.
Hailing Dr. DC Pawte as a great scholar, visionary and an able administrator, Gudasi exhorted the students and staff to work for the progress of the University and take it to greater heights.
