Oscars 2023: Academy Awards to include all 23 categories presented live on air

Los Angeles: All 23 categories will be telecast during the Oscars 2023 telecast. Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced the news Tuesday exclusively to Variety.

“I can confirm that the live telecast will include all categories,” he added. The news comes after eight different Oscar categories – original score, makeup and hairstyling, documentary short, film editing, production design, animated short, live action short and sound – were cut from the main telecast at the 2022 Academy Awards Is. A lot of resentment in the film industry.

“We are committed to making a show that celebrates artisans, the arts and sciences, and the collaborative nature of moviemaking. That is the mission of the Academy, and I have great hope that we can make a show that celebrates all components of moviemaking in an entertaining and engaging way,” Kramer told Variety.

Since his appointment in June, Kramer said he has had several conversations about reinstating the missing categories. “We are thrilled to be in a position to execute this.”

Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Oscars for the third time. Kramer said he is looking forward to hosting late night. “I love someone hosting the show who knows live television. I think that’s very important,” he said.

Asked what else viewers can expect from the telecast, Kramer said: “I’ll just say that our anniversary, the 95th Oscars, is hugely important to us. I think it’s a really great time for our 100th.” Sets an interesting rhythm. Whether you see it at the museum, I think we’ve been able to celebrate our heritage while bringing the Academy into the future and this show will reflect that.”

White Cherry Entertainment executive producers and show runners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner will produce the Oscars and Weiss returns for the eighth consecutive year as the show’s directors.

The 95th Academy Awards will air live from the Dolby Theater in Ovation Hollywood on March 12, 2023.

The ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC and in more than 200 territories around the world.
