Oppenheimer India box office collection Day 1: Christopher Nolan’s film leaves behind Barbie, MI 7

Starring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr., Oppenheimer hit silver screens worldwide on Friday. Christopher Nolan’s film is pitted against Greta Gerwig’s Barbie at the box office. Although Barbie is ahead of Nolan’s film at the US box office, in India Oppenheimer has beaten Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie’s film and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1.

As per early estimates, Oppenheimer opened to a big opening and collected over Rs 13 crore in India on its first day. The movie was mostly liked in metro and big cities and now it is a hit in India. Even in terms of advance booking, Nolan’s film remained ahead in South Asian countries including India on 21 July.

However, Oppenheimer did not perform well at the North American box office and collected around $10.5 million, which is comparatively less than Barbie the Movie. The history film is expected to collect around $75 million worldwide this weekend.

The iconic box office clash, Barbie vs. Oppenheimer, created a huge stir on social media. While a section of moviegoers voted for Barbie, others voted for Oppenheimer. Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig touched the Rs 5 crore mark on its first day in India. It is expected to gross over $300 million worldwide in its first weekend.
