The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to interfere with the eviction of Lok Sabha MP Chirag Paswan from the bungalow allotted to his late father Ram Vilas Paswan.

Dismissing the plea of Chirag Paswan’s mother Reena Paswan, Justice Yashwant Verma said that at this stage he has to stop the process which has already started.

The petitioner’s counsel sought four months’ time from the court to vacate the premises at Janpath in the heart of the city, citing “practical difficulties” and told the court that at present hundreds of people are living there.

“This is not your party’s headquarters,” Justice Verma said. The judge said the process was initiated in 2020 and notices of the same were given to the parties. The court told the counsel for the petitioner, “Here out sir. The process has started…”.

Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma informed that the eviction process has already started and the occupants were given notice in 2020 itself.

“It’s done. Very few household items are left. We’ve started. It’s almost done, finalized. Five trucks have left,” he said.

On Wednesday, the central government had sent a team to evict the Lok Sabha MP from the Janpath bungalow, which was earmarked for Union ministers.

The House, which has been the official address of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), has now split in two after the death of former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan over two differences between Chirag Paswan and his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras.

It was regularly used for organizing party organizational meetings and other related events.
