While a record number of 1.51 lakh people are admitted in a day in the US, 19 states in the country have less than 15 per cent capacity left in their ICUs. Whereas in the provinces of Kentucky, Alabama, Indiana and New Hampshire, the number is less than 10 percent. In view of the increasing prevalence of the Omicron variant in the country, the number of medical personnel in the hospital has also decreased.

Due to this the pressure is getting very high. The situation is very bad in Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont.

Strictness in China, told people – stay in homes

China has ordered people to stay at home in cities affected by the Omicron variant of Corona. Preparations for 6,000 quarantine rooms intensified on Friday in Yuzhou city of Henan province. Apart from this, the process of making 5,000 quarantine rooms in Zhengzhou by April has started. Strictness has also been increased in the cities of Shijiangyan, Zhigou and Shenan.

The National Institutes of Health said on Friday that in a survey conducted on January 3, 81 percent of cases were found to be of the Omicron variant. Whereas on December 20, Omicron infection was only 28 percent. In the survey of 3 January, the cases of delta form within the country are 19 percent.

WHO approves two new treatments for corona
WHO has approved two new corona treatments amid increasing infections around the world. According to the British medical journal The BMJ, experts said that the arthritis drug baricitinib used with corticosteroids proved to be better for treating severe corona patients and reduced the need for ventilators. Apart from this, experts have also recommended the synthetic antibody treatment sotrovimab. It can prove to be effective for the elderly and chronic diseases like diabetes.

Fourth wave in Africa has stopped: WHO
The WHO has said that the fourth wave from the Omicron variant of the corona in Africa seems to have stopped. After a spurt in cases for six weeks, they have started declining. The first case of this variant was reported in South Africa on 24 November. The WHO declared it a worrying form of infection on 26 November.
