Odisha constable suspended for ‘negligence’ in teacher’s disappearance and murder case Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: The State Police Headquarters on Thursday suspended Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Kegaon police station Damu Parza. OrissaKalahandi District, for dereliction of duty in the case of alleged kidnapping and murder of school teacher Mamita Meher.
The move came after TOI exposed the alleged negligence of the Kegaon police officials in the matter.
Meher, who belonged Balangir He used to teach in a private school in Mahalinga under the district, Kegaon police area. On 8 October she told her parents that she was going to meet the school president, Gobinda Sahu, but never returned home.
A day after her disappearance, Meher’s family approached the Kegaon police station to file a complaint about her sudden disappearance. But the local police allegedly chased them away. With speculations that Sahu is considered close to Dibya Shankar Mishra, an influential figure in the locality and Minister of State for Home, the police refused to register a complaint by Meher’s family.
Meher’s family had lodged a missing complaint with the Sindhkela police station in Balangir on October 13.
Meher was allegedly abducted by Sahu in his car from a village under Sindhkela police limits.
“Kegaon IIC should have accepted the complaint and filed a missing person. Instead he asked the complainant to approach Sindhkela police, under whose jurisdiction Meher had reportedly gone missing. If the matter pertains to an offense against a woman, the jurisdiction of the offense should not be an issue. The act of Kegaon IIC is gross misconduct and dereliction of duty,” read the suspension order signed by Director General of Police Abhay. He will remain under the disciplinary control of Kalahandi SP during the suspension period, the order further read.
It is to be noted that Sindhkela police had also allegedly tried to stall the investigation against Sahu despite registering a case. Sources said that the Kalahandi police took Sahu into custody and handed him over to the Sindhkela police on October 14.
Surprisingly, Sahu was not taken to Sindhkela police station where a case was registered against him. Instead of arresting him, the police kept him at the Titlagarh police barracks in Balangir till 16 October, before he fled on 17 October. Sahu was finally caught by the police on Tuesday and arrested the next day for the alleged murder of Meher.
