Odisha: Case registered against BJD MLA for not attending his own wedding

Police said a case was registered against BJD MLA Bijay Shankar Das for not attending his wedding on Saturday. He said that a case was registered against Tirtol MLA Das at Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station on the basis of a complaint by a woman alleging that she cheated him on not coming to the marriage registrar’s office on Friday.

IPC sections 420 (cheating), 195A (threatening to give false evidence to any person), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 509 (words, gestures or acts with intent to insult the modesty of a woman), A case was registered under 341. The couple applied to the marriage registrar’s office on May 17. Though the woman along with her family reached there for the marriage formalities on Friday after 30 days, but according to the FIR, the MLA could not be present.

The woman claimed that she was in a relationship with Das for three years and promised to marry him on the due date. “But unfortunately, his brother and other family members are threatening me. He did not keep his promise and he is not answering my phone calls,” she alleged.
