BHUBANESWAR: Odisha on Friday achieved the milestone of delivering over 4 crore (40,071,211) doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
It took 44 days to reach the figure of 4 crore from the day the state completed the administration of three crore doses. An average of 2.27 lakh doses have been given in the last 44 days. In this way the number of people who took at least the first dose became 2.67 crore.
The cumulative figure of 4 crore shows that Odisha has a shortfall of more than two crore doses from fully immunizing its eligible population of 18 years and above. There are 3.25 core eligible beneficiaries in the state, for which it will require 6.5 crore doses.
Bijay Panigrahi, director of family welfare, said: “We have maintained the immunization pace as planned. The number of people receiving the second dose in a day is twice the number of beneficiaries of the first dose. Presently, we have 45 lakhs. Have stock. Dosage.” He said about 41 percent of the eligible population has been vaccinated with both doses.
“The vaccine consignment is arriving here before the stock runs out. So there is no problem in meeting the daily planned dosage target. By the end of December, we want to at least complete the first dose of vaccination for everyone. So far the number of people who have received at least the first dose is 2,672,538,” Panigrahi said.
In the 18-44 age group, 22,242, 874 have received the vaccine, of whom 20,062,136 are males. Of the total doses given so far, 35,268,138 are from Covishield. Ganjam district has overtaken Khurda in terms of cumulative dose administered. While Ganjam gave 41,02,121 doses till Wednesday, Khurda’s total dose was 36,83,763. Deogarh is the only district whose second dose of vaccination has not yet crossed the 1 lakh mark.
The state had given 1,77,140 doses at 2,092 sites on Friday till the filing of the report. On Friday, the state reported 263 new Covid cases out of 66,533 samples tested, recording an overall positivity rate of 0.39 per cent. Ten districts did not report a single Covid infection, while Khurda added 129 new cases. 94 new cases were reported in the capital city.
