The Mumbai-born cricketer ended the first day of the Test with all four Indian wickets and made an impact in the first session the next day by taking wickets on back-to-back deliveries. While he was denied a hat-trick, Ejaz took all 10 wickets in the innings, even to applause from the opposition camp.

“Personally I think I have had one of the greatest cricket days in my life. And it probably always will be,” Ajaz had said at the conclusion of the Test match.

JP Duminy, member of the ICC Voting Academy for December, commended the achievement.

“What a historic achievement! Taking 10 wickets in an innings is a feat that should be celebrated. There is no doubt that Ejaz’s performance is a milestone that will be remembered for years to come,” said the South African former said the cricketer.

Ijaz was nominated for the award along with India opener Mayank Agarwal and Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, but defeated them on his incredibly rare feat.
